Europees samenwerkingsverband hogescholen UASNET presenteert position paper

Het European Network for Universities of Applied Sciences (UASNET) heeft op 2 april jl. zijn position paper gepresenteerd in aanloop naar de volgende ministersconferentie in het kader van het zogeheten 'Bologna-proces' op 28 en 29 april 2009. Het paper is ondertekend door 10 landen, waaronder Frankrijk, Finland en Nederland. Zij benoemen in het paper vier terreinen waarop de hogescholen (Universities of Applied Sciences) in Europa initiatieven zullen ontwikkelen in het kader van de prioriteiten die de Europese ministers van onderwijs hebben geformuleerd voor Europa. Hierbij geven de hogescholen aan wat de ministers van hen kunnen verwachten, maar ook waarvoor zij naar de ministers en stakeholders kijken om het initiatief te nemen. In het position paper is een centrale plek ingeruimd voor de kennistransfer die hogescholen kunnen realiseren.

De presentatie vond plaats in het ‘Austria House’ in Brussel, met een welkomstwoord door de Oostenrijkse ambassadeur Schweisgut, en de onderwijsminister Höchtl. Robert-Jan Smits, directeur bij DG Research van de Europese Commissie nam het position paper in ontvangst. Hij daagde de hogescholen uit om hun plek in de Europese agenda in te nemen: ‘You are too shy and too modest. You deserve your spot in the European agenda’.

Inleiding position paper
'The UAS of Europe are the key institutions for the transfer of top-knowledge and knowhow to society, economy and culture. Their mission and their work is now more relevant than ever in a time of economic, demographic and social transformations of Europe and the nations that are part of the Union.  The Ministers of Higher Education of 46 European nations meet in Leuven/Louvain-la-Neuve to set out the course of Europe as a global Higher Education area and centre of knowledge for the next decade. The UAS reach out to them as partners – and as source of inspiration – for concrete, successful examples of such a role for Europe.
 
The main priorities the Ministers have formulated for this next decade have the potential to give a strong impetus to Higher Education and UAS and its practice-oriented research and education. The UAS in Europe have formulated together what they will do themselves to realize this impetus, what they challenge the ministers to initiate and where they invite the ministers to join forces with them to involve the stakeholders of Higher Education in Europe. At each of the following four priority-areas UAS will be active and take initiatives.
 
1. Widening participation and talent scouting
2. Empowering competences for active citizenship
3. Economic recovery through knowledge intensity
4. Diversity in responsibility and participation'
